We should have these holidays more often

Yesterday on the packed Friday 5:30 train, with people crowded on every side of me, while looking up at the ceiling to avoid uncomfortably close eye contact, I heard the tinny sound of someone’s earphones. It was Michael Jackson, Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.
Mia and I were just at Queens Center Mall. From a car idling on the corner, Michael Jackson played. We had a Zipcar for the...

See for yourself. While I appreciate the gesture, my journalist ethics are angered by it. The BBC feels the same sentiments many of us do… however, I don’t feel it’s right of them to express it. But...

me: [handing my fairly standard sized blue travel mug] Coffee please!
and then one of these things will happen:
1. he turns it over, looks on the bottom, inside, looks at me
“how many ounces is this?”
2. That will be $2.11
me: it was $2 yesterday
them: stares blankly at the 2 dollars I hand them, says nothing.
3. “what size is this?”
me: “the 2 dollar...
