“Consider what it was in them that you valued and cultivate those qualities in yourself.” —Bill T. Jones was asked in an interview, “How do you cope with the loss of those whom you love?”

Cat Stevens — “If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out”

Dearest Tumblr and Slightly Less Dear but Still Significant Internet:

I couldn’t give less of a fuck than you can possibly imagine about Kanye West, Taylor Swift, the VMAs, Beyonce, MTV, music videos in general, or commentary about all/any combination of the above. I’m not saying I’m above pop culture zit-picking and rubbernecking, I’m just saying I came here to talk about True Blood, Mad Men, and possibly Jim Carroll, and you are failing me. I can’t wait until tomorrow, when everyone has stopped discussing Kanye, or next month, when people stop saying they’re on “Team ________,” or next year, when we’re all going to be going to work via spaceships and eating fat-free steak, mash potato, and tarragon asparagus meals by taking a Wonkan dinnerpill and washing it down with genetically modified water. Thank you.

Friends forever, The Unsustainable

P.S. Cat Stevens has traveled through time and space to tell you that if you want to be you, be you, and if you want to be me, be me, ‘cause there’s a million things to be, you know that there are, you know that there are, you know that there are.

a: I love cat stevens.

b: I worked on a gig once where kanye west was the entertainment and he thanked us and said good night see you tomorrow after his sound check and we were all so shocked we argued as to whether that was really him or not.

c:  no idea who taylor swift is.  or true blood or mad men.  but dude Jim Carroll.  RIP, man.

“The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day. That is real freedom. The alternative is unconsciousness, the default-setting, the “rat race” — the constant gnawing sense of having had and lost some infinite thing.” —David Foster Wallace, from this (via yvonnegeorgina) (via newyorkdays)

Lucky the turtle lost his 2 front legs, but he’s okay.  No sweat, he says.
