One Local Summer — Week one!
we had turkey cheeseburgers, potato salad of a liberal definition, asparagus:
here is the breakdown which I’m sure I will lose discipline on soon:
ground turkey from DiPaola Farm (Hamilton, NJ 80mi).
Cheddar from Central Valley Farm (Bethlahem Township, NJ 70mi).
Lettuce, asparagus and green garlic (in the burger) both from a stand in the Union Square market which I don’t remember the name of. ah well. Ditto the roll. The mustard was from France but had going for it the fact that it was already in my possession.
potato salad with spring onions both from a now forgotten farmer’s market stand. Dressed with sesame oil and mustard, both local to places where I’m not. Unless my fridge counts which it really doesn’t.
I’m hoping to get at least a few “pure” meals this summer — I’m not sure how to prepare anything without olive oil, but I’m sure it is possible. I’m armed with local lard afterall (mm pie). I’m pretty sure I can get local (ish) mustard, but since I have a couple types in the fridge already I feel like it is an okay cheat. Kind of. I might feel a little guilty.
My CSA starts next week, I’m more than a little excited. Farmer Bill promised strawberries.
