OLS week 10 - picnic!
10 weeks already? Summer goes by so fast, even when I’m not doing anything but swimming and dreading the back to school aisle appearing at the local drug store (now I’m always more than a little jealous and covet all the new notebooks).
Sam (my CSA share buddy and dearest friend) and I decided to have a last minute picnic and much to our surprise it was merely one block of gouda cheese away from being 100% local. We packed up our goodies and headed to Astoria Park (home of the Olympics swimming and diving trials in 1936 and 1964, since we’re in the midst of said games), our feast included:
-Herbed pork sausage from Flying Pigs Farm (199) sauteed with radiccio, red onion, herbs (csa, 88) and made by Sam. I am still dreaming about it, that sausage is seriously awesome.
-Cucumber Salad which looks remarkably like last week’s (csa, 88 + my community garden, 0!).
grilled squash (half garden + half CSA = 88).
fresh mozzarella cheese made at a neighborhood Italian shop.
bread from a neighborhood bakery.
purple basil pesto (basil from my garden, 0! garlic from the farmer’s market).
White Sangria with peaches, plums and nectarines (csa-fruit 81) made with Duck Walk white table wine (88). Garnished with lemon verbena (my garden, 0).
