OLS week 13, pesto party

Is this the last week?  I feel like it must be what with summer being over and all.  Thanks so much to the hosts at farm to philly and to Elizabeth for being such a great regional coordinator!

This week’s OLS dinner was of the slow grazing sort. Sami and I got our huge csa basil share and spent an evening chopping pesto by hand (it really does make a difference if not always practical) and making tasty treats of our other CSA and garden goodies.

all in all we drank more fancy (but mostly local) cocktails than actually ate, but didn’t do too bad:

-farmer’s market bread with *awesome* local cheese that Sam bought — the label even had what the cows grazed on listed.

-gazpacho (mostly csa, 88 + a healthy dose of garden plot, 0)

-squash soup (csa, 88)

-cucumber dill soup (garden, 0 + csa, 88) garnished with smoked trout (unknown, but yum)

-potato green bean salad (csa, 88 -mostly)

this fed us all evening and lunches for several days.

strawberry jive (a few more pics on flickr)

as for the drinks there was a cucumber gimlet, a stawberry jive which featured home grown basil and mint and LORDY was it ever good, a lavender honey martini which was sweet but tasty and the honey and lavender were both local. and lastly a blueberry thyme which was good but not as thymey as we were both hoping. The strawberry jive was really the highlight. It tasted like pure summer and I miss it already.
