dark days challenge, week 2
My week two DDC dinner came in the form of a last-minute-family-dinner. My cousin, who recently moved to nyc, trekked out to queens on a particularly hateful weekend to be a train rider and we cooked dinner together. It was pretty simple seeing as I worked all day and we got a late start, but hey better than nothing. We had chicken sausage that comes from Cohoe, NY (156 miles), butternut squash and something I believed called carnival squash which I bought based purely on pretty (86 miles). We tossed it with tons of fresh csa herbs, yummy. Salad came from my CSA (88 miles) and the wine from apparently down the road from my csa farm (88 miles).
We had an awesome thanksgiving with friends and their family. This past winter I talked CSA membership up so much I’m taking credit for their joining the one near them. They cooked a fantastic feast and proclaimed it nearing 90% local. Totally awesome.
