Please re-blog it far and wide. Don’t just click “like”: REBLOG IT. People need to see the names and neighborhoods.

These are the Democratic state senators who voted against marriage equality today. If you live in their district, don’t vote for them again; and if your district has a Democratic primary, you need to find out which candidate supports marriage equality and fund them, advocate for them, and vote for them. If your district does NOT typically have Democratic primary challengers, then start rattling the cages of your local government and advocacy organizations and get the ball rolling on the hunt to find one. Write your State Senator and tell them you will not rest until you’ve voted them out of office for this.

If your State Senator voted Yes for marriage equality today, write them a thank-you letter. They’re on the right side of history, they stuck their necks out, and they deserve praise. And if they didn’t: again, it’s time to let them know you’re coming for them.

Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. Represents Howard Beach, Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Maspeth, Middle Village, and parts of Ridgewood.

Darrell Aubertine. Represents parts of Oswego, St. Lawrence, and Jefferson Counties.

Dark days challenge week 2

I have pictures. at home on my camera. and I meant to write this yesterday. when it was theoretically due. such is life.

So the meal was!

leg of lamb from a farm upstate, purchased at the rhinebeck sheep and wool festival. It was drowned in pomegranate molasses which were SURELY not local (Lebanon, in fact) and many herbs, mostly from the windowsill, some from our csa, a even a little bit of surviving parsley from my community garden.

with it was braised radicchio with cranberry beans (csa).

and roasted root vegetables (all from our csa).

and it was all really super yummy. Cooked together with my csa-share-buddy for a little thanksgiving of our own.

at Socrates the dogs are romping around, thankful for a place to romp.

the guys at two coves garden are sweeping up some leaves and greeting the neighborhood as they wander by. It is nice that they are always there, and always so happy to see you.

vesta wasn’t open yet, but they will be later. They are tasty and had a food drive this week.

hot bagel was pretty crowded on 30th avenue, pre-turkey time and all. Next door on the corner of 32nd Street, at the florist shop, you can get a christmas cactus in full pretty bloom. They’re open, they’re always open on holidays. Sometimes it is mother’s day eve and midnight and they are they for you.

and at home our semi-crazy downstairs neighbor, whom I’ve never seen leaving the building or even further from just outside her 3rd floor door, was getting into a access-a-ride van, going on an adventure.

Happy Thanksgiving, may it be full of lots of nice little things. and pie.

Dark Days Challenge week #1

for those of you who might care, more info at the (not so) Urban Hennery.

My first DDC meal was an easy standby since my current work schedule only allows for eating early in the day at a semi-odd time. By myself too, but might be a pathetic excuse.

It was

a fried egg (190 miles — they’re from whole foods, it was as good as I could do)
sauteed broccoli rabe (god how I love that stuff) w/ fresh thyme (csa 90 miles)
sweet potatoes (and homegrown rosemary) (csa 90 miles)

I’m not exactly sure why, but it was the best thing I had eaten in days.
